Progress on the Garden

Our team has been hard at work to get the garden ready for planting.

Last week, we planted our first plants 3 native narrow leaf milkweed plants. The squirrels were a little hard on them at my house. They were hiding nuts in the dirt and covering up the leaves so it was time for them to move to the garden. I planted them November in cups. Not sure the middle one below will make it but we will see!

Last week, we also opened up all (or almost all) the seed packs and our team is fostering mini green houses at their homes.

Day 6 next to my hydroponic garden system in my house.

There's no such thing as too much milkweed so if you have seeds keep planting, one adult caterpillar can eat down one plant in a day. The milkweed doesn't die it does grow back but that takes time. One female monarch can lay 10 eggs in one visit.

While we were there last week, an adult monarch was flying around so they are there just waiting for us to have the garden ready!

If you'd like to volunteer there's tons of work that still needs done. Email us @ mymagnoliapta@gmail.com or message us on Facebook.
